1.1 Evidence-Based Practice in HR: Application in Absence Management and Equal Pay in Camellia’s

EBP means making choices by carefully using reliable and proven evidence (Young, 2024). This process in HR means bringing together information from the company, outside sources, feedback from stakeholders and the advice of experts to enhance the management of employees and the success of the company. EBP helps to choose better strategies by eliminating bias and relying on research evidence instead of habits, thoughts or assumptions.

In Camellia’s, terms of absence management, Evidence-Based Practice can direct HR professionals to identify what triggers employees to miss work. HR experts find out whether the absences are momentary, longer term or linked to workplace stress by studying attendance figures, worker feedback and relevant industry data (CIPD, 2023). The information collected in this way helps to choose specific actions, like health and wellbeing activities or allowing more flexible work which can control employee absences. If it is found that employees in one department are taking more days off due to stress, HR may advise on easing workloads or giving more support for mental health.

With regard to equal pay, Camellia’s EBP reviews pay structures to guarantee employees receive fair treatment and adhere to the law (Government Equalities office, 2022). By using both numbers (salary data) and assessments (same-level staff employees take) in HR, it is possible to discover whether differences exist and what is causing them. If the proof highlights a gap that is left unexplained by any job role or performance factors such information can lead to corrective solutions such as changing salary scales or update hiring and promotion systems.

By taking an EBP approach, Camellia’s HR departments guarantee that their decisions are fair, understandable to employees and in line with the organization’s strategies and laws. It helps improve the reputation of HR and makes employees and leadership place more trust in the department. By incorporating EBP in the research for senior management, you improve the report’s effect and influence people at the organisation to base their decisions on evidence. Essentially, Camellia’s EBP delivers a reliable structure for managing HR issues, ensuring all interventions are successful, enduring and share the same values and best practices as the organisation.

1.2 Diagnosing Organisational Issues, Challenges, and Opportunities in Introducing a New Service

Ansoff Matrix

The Ansoff Matrix is a strategic planning tool that helps organisations evaluate growth opportunities by focusing on markets and products. It consists of four strategies: market penetration, market development, product development, and diversification (‌The Strategy Institute, 2024).

Issues: The Ansoff Matrix aids in spotting potential gaps between the organization’s strengths and what consumers are looking for in a new service. As an example, Camellia’s introducing a new service to an already familiar group (product development), you may realize that your team lacks proper training or support systems.

Challenges: The model shows what risks each strategy involves (Peterdy, 2022). For instance, Camellia’s expanding a business to new markets often requires offering new services which can bring challenges like facing customs different from what is common, facing new rules or being unknown to customers. It supports organisational leaders in predicting and planning ahead for these problems.

Opportunities: The matrix helps people discover new ways to grow. Adding services for current customers (product development) can improve loyalty and raise income, in Camellia’s whereas reaching out to new markets (market development) adds more potential income streams. It allows managers to find the best and realistic way to grow.

McKinsey’s 7S Model

The 7S Model examines seven interdependent organisational elements: Strategy, Structure, Systems, Shared Values, Style, Staff, and Skills (‌CFI Team, 2022). It provides a holistic view for managing change.

Issues:  It can reveal if certain operations are not on the same page which can block a new service from being successfully introduced in Camellia’s. If the structure is inflexible or if systems are not modernized, it may slow down how the organization delivers its services.

Challenges: It uncovers where things must be changed. When staff in Camellia’s do not possess the needed skills or the leadership is unable to encourage new approaches, it may be tough for the new service to attract attention. To execute smoothly, all 7 elements need to be in agreement.

Opportunities: The model looks for what employees are good at to help implement the change. If everyone shares the same beliefs or the company is flexible, adopting the new service may come more quickly in Camellia’s. It also motivates leaders to make the most of their staff and efficient processes to stand out over competitors.

They each give useful guidelines for understanding and handling the actions in an organization around the introduction of new services.

AC 1.3 Tools of Critical Thinking

Questioning
Questioning is, according to Cojocariu et al (2014), a key tool for critical thinking that can clarify and extend understanding while challenging commonly accepted ideas. iN Camellia’s It means asking pointed and meaningful questions such as “Where did the data come from?”, “What method was used to get this result?” or “What might have affected the results?” During the process of reviewing pay data, asking questions helps see issues, patterns or gaps that are not easy to recognize at first.

Checking Validity of Sources and Evidence

Checking the validity of sources and evidence is about making sure the information being used is proper, dependable and fits the context. Among other questions, I look at how the information was gathered, if it is complete and if the techniques used to study the data are reliable (Tawatao, 2024). If any Camellia’s pay data is investigated, the evidence must be valid, so no biased conclusions are formed, particularly when making decisions.

Application of These Tools to Inform Your Own Ideas

When working with data on employee pay, I would start by questioning how it was gathered. For instance, if the reported gap is 6% for gender, I want to know if we are comparing employees in the same roles. Is it possible to view data for employees with full-time and part-time contracts separately? Do bonuses based on performance, if any, play a role in the pay structure? With these questions, I try to understand how the figures were used in their time IN Camellia’s. After that, I would validate the credibility of the available sources. The data I use will come from HR IS, cover all departments and be updated recently. Once I see the figures depend on records that are not complete or recent, I’d wait until the corrections are made. This process informs my own ideas by giving me a realistic and evidence-based understanding of the issue.

Application to Inform Others’ Ideas
I would use the same critical thinking tools when presenting findings to my colleagues or leadership to shape a shared understanding. For instance IN Camellia’s  I would challenge this assumption by presenting evidence from the data that shows unexplained pay differences (for example, if a manager assumes because “no one has complained,” that pay is equal). I would describe how we validated the data, as a result we can be confident that is was reliable. That means doing what we can to make it easier for others to move beyond assumptions, in order to have evidence led discussions and make fairer decisions.

1.4 Decision-Making Processes

CIPD (2024) states that in evidence based practice, effective decision making involves structured, reflective and collaborative processes that maintain integrity, transparency and value. In this process, Camellia’s two useful approaches are action learning and the problem–outcome framework. These are critical thinking tools, tools to help with continuous improvement and tools to help make sound decisions based on hard evidence.
