TASK 1: Case Study
1.1: Role and Value of People Professionals
People Professional definition
A person practitioner is an individual that benefits organisations by assisting them in managing people, ethical standards and sound decision making. The CIPD (2025) believes that people professionals generate value by enhancing employee experiences, building capability and aligning people practices with organisational goals. This position is relevant at Plyton as inconsistent approaches to management have resulted in unequal access to learning and development, complaints by employees and staff turnover.
Significance of Behaviour in accordance to the CIPD Professional Standards.
Adhering to the CIPD Profession Map and Code of Conduct assists the people professionals in being fair, professional and act with integrity. Such standards promote evidence-based practice and ethical decision making that fosters trust and credibility (CIPD, 2021). Regular practice of professional standards would assist Plyton to overcome unhealthy practices and implement transparent processes. The conformity to these standards also mitigates problems relating to discrimination, grievances and employee discontent. Professional standards in the context of growing business encourage uniformity and favour positive organisational performance (Hannah Grace Lanneau Reeves, 2024).
How I can contribute to Plyton.
To begin with, I will be able to formulate equitable and consistent people policies that encompass recruitment, learning and development and employee relations. The standardised processes would create an equal chance among the three software teams and foster employee confidence.
Second, I will be able to assist and nurture the team managers. Given the fact that they have not undergone any training on management, I can coach, develop management skills and offer evidence-based counselling to enhance their capability in managing people. According to research conducted by Sorenson (2023), good managers play a key role in employee engagement and retention.
Assessment of Value a Professional in Judgement.
In sum, a people professional will be able to make significant contribution to Plyton. Employee engagement can be enhanced by implementing CIPD professional standards and implementing regular practices, minimizing turnover and contributing to sustainable growth (CIPD, 2025b). As such the people professional must be seen not just as an administrative resource but also as a strategic partner that will contribute to both the wellbeing of employees and organisational performance.
1.2: Values Informing Ethical People Practice

Value 1: Fairness
Fairness is one of the ethical values that will aid me in my new position as an HR/L&D Adviser. This involves the process of taking decisions at all times, in a transparent, unbiased manner. At Plyton, fairness is of particular importance as it has been observed that the firm has had land-lopy working conditions as well as unequal access to learning and development. By being fair when it comes to treating everyone equally, I will be assisting in making sure that every employee, no matter the team or manager of these teams, will have equal access to opportunities, support and information. An illustrative case will be a fair learning and development process that applies clear criteria in approving training, in addition to managers depending on choice of employees who they wish to be part of the intended training. This would contribute to the minimization of complaints, enhancing support and trust, and creating a more inclusive workplace culture. According to ACAS (2024), the key to operating relationships in the workplace is fair treatment and equal opportunity.
Value 2: Integrity
The second value is integrity. Integrity entails being truthful, professional and ethical even in the hard times. This value will assist me in confronting bad practice, like ineffective recruitment, unfair access to training or poor management behaviour, at Plyton. The CIPD Code of Conduct anticipates that people professionals behave with professionalism, integrity and respect and guard the confidence in the profession (CIPD, 2023). Through integrity, I would be able to offer honest advice to managers using evidence and employment requirements. I would also voice any concerns where necessary where behaviour might be unethical or illegal.
The Importance of These Values to My People Practice.
Using fairness and integrity would define my people practice in assisting me to make balanced, ethical and evidence-based decisions. These values would inform the policy formulation process, give advice to managers, serve employees and deal with complaints. They would also assist Plyton to quit the unstructured manager-driven process in favour of coherent and professional individuals’ management. On the whole, fairness and integrity would enable me to gain credibility, defend the employees against unfair treatment and help Plyton to grow in the long-term perspective by allowing me to build better trust, engagement and retention.
1.3: Communicating People Practice with Confidence
Value of Canonical, Coherent and Confident Communication.
It is significant that I need to address the management team of Plyton in a way that is informed, clear and confident since the business requires methods of people practices that are well structured after a certain time of informal growth. There has been minimal guidance of the team managers to recruit, lead and approver development opportunities. This has brought about inconsistency, dissatisfaction and resignations of key employees. This calls upon me as a people professional to justify the need to change with the help of evidence, professionalism and business hand sense.
Informed communication refers to the use of credible evidence, principles of the employment law and comments of the employees as opposed to subjective views (Bogale and Debela, 2024). This assists the managers on the reasons why policies and procedures are necessary. Effective communication is also significant as simple descriptions of expectations, risks and benefits can be required by managers who have low experience. Trust is important since some managers might not be ready to change and more so when they think that the informal practices allow them the freedom to do whatever they want to do. The CIPD Profession Map highlights the need for people professionals to be evidence based, ethical and influential in order to create value (CIPD, 2024).
Benefits for Plyton
This might help make better decisions, facilitate ethical practice and minimize people risks. It can assist the managers to realize that fair policies are neither feel-good barriers, nor consistency and engagement tools as well as business performance. According to ACAS (2020), organizations with strong policies in the workplace can handle matters impartially and minimize conflicts. At Plyton, it would help in the recruitment process, more equitable access to learning and development and greater loyalty among employees.
Consequence for Me
In case, I am not able to express myself in an informed, clear and confident manner, my credibility as an HR/L&D Adviser can be reduced. People can practice as administrative instead of professional or strategic as viewed by the managers. This may weaken my decision-making power, as well as decrease my value to Plyton.
Consequence for Plyton
In the case of Plyton, when people practice bad communication, the unfair and inconsistent management might proceed. This can result in additional complaints, reduced participation, additional employee turnover and even litigation. As Wigert (2023) demonstrates, managers have a strong impact on engagement, and their inability to lead positively might hurt the wellbeing of employees and the overall performance of an organisation.
1.4: Raising Ethical and Legal Concerns
Approach to the Unethical Training Decisions
In case I had realised that one manager was habitually granting costly training to the favourite team members and
