In CIPD (2025), it is defined as “initiating positive and appropriate workplace experience for staff apart from only prioritising on their rewards and jobs security”. The outcome of this is initiating an environment facilitating employees gaining a feeling of high-value, facilitation and guaranteeing opportunities for professional and success. For the merger context, better working lives assists in enhancing quality of relations of all stakeholders hence maintaining commitment and involvement.
Examples of Better Working Lives
Rewards and Benefits– The issuance of market-based rewards which adhere to tenents of equity and equality enhance quality of working lives. In merger, when there emerges disparity in issued rewards such as in the merging organisations, dissatisfied human resources. This limits the quality of execution of their functions in their organisation. In line with CIPD (2025b), the people practice professionals are supposed to pursue reviews of rewards for guaranteeing their fairness, mitigate dissatisfaction and guarantee financial gains.
Health and Safety Environment (HSE)– This is even captured in UK Health and Safety Act of 1978 (CIPD, 2025c).
