(Solution) 5HR03 Question 6. AC 2.4: Explain the merits of two different types of recognition schemes that could be offered by Mercy Frontier

Solution

Formal values-based public recognition

Merit 1: A quarterly award for the employee or team that demonstrates social justice, dignity, equality and responsibility would reflect Mercy Frontier’s values. Genuine contributions that are recognized can help grow employee performance, further enhancing cultural consistency across countries (Bradler et al., 2016).

Merit 2: A bi-lateral nomination and paneling process will provide all field, administrative, fundraising and treasury employees equal visibility. Competitive awards can accomplish the same effect without a significant monetary investment (Kosfeld and Neckermann, 2011), therefore certificates, development chances or small vouchers would be appropriate for a not-for-profit targeted by a donation.

Informal day-to-day recognition

Merit 1: Appreciation from managers/peers at a time which links the recognition to the behaviour being reinforced. There are opportunities for validation of effort immediately after an emergency transfer, adequate programme delivery, or donor response. Non-cash recognition when it is sincere and As of Working, it is significant but when it is a formulaically delivered playing its meaning goes away. (Long and Shields, 2010)

Merit 2: Everyday thanks is inexpensive, adaptable and accessible to employees who may not achieve “heads up” outcomes. Studies on a larger scale indicate that symbolic criteria can be effective in maintaining voluntary contribution to public goods relevant to Mercy Frontier’s mission oriented employees (Gallus, 2017).

Implementation judgement

Incentives and recognition should reinforce the organisation’s purpose and be fairly designed (CIPD, 2025a). The same goes for bonus arrangements – Acas also emphasises that these should be clearly defined and non-discriminatory (Acas, 2025a)..
