There are different risks and challenges which impact success in L&D. These are informed by challenges in their presentation and application.

Organisations
Financial and resource constraints can be listed among the key-challenges of the organisations implementing technologies as L&D solutions. Among the demerits of delivering training with the help of LD is the fact that training delivery is too expensive due to cost of investing in learning management systems (LMS), training programmes and software and training delivery structure in particular SMEs. Moreover, it can keep its pace with fast developing technologies but also can obsolete and force the company to undergo the upgrade constantly.
To address this, Companies are handling these risks in terms of implementing low-cost and PAYG SaaS solutions that help in reducing the costs and utilize the Economy of size in terms of usage of the technology solutions. Return on investment is also determined whereby investments on the selected technology relate to the long term strategic programmes of numerous organisations (Vithana et al., 2021)
Learning and Development Professionals
This may vary as professionals training may not be at the required standards, in the dynamic world, therefore, the technical expertise that will help in the training development may be quite different. They can investigate various aspects of learning programmes including VR or gamification or even data analytics but they might not be effective enough technically to make full use of them.
To counter such, organisations are making sure that Learning & Development (L&D) teams get trained on packages with certification along with practical experience on these technologies. As an example, there are programmes, which are realised by CIPD, and are dedicated to the staff of L&D, and are conducting on the improvement of the digital literacy. Similarly to the fact that when using peer learning via communities of practise it is possible to identify the best practises, it is also possible to share practical ideas and tips (CIPD, 2019).
