Solution
Task one – Questions
1.1 Concept of evidence-based practice (EBP) and provide two examples of where Technivara could use it to ensure sound decision-making in people practice
Evaluation of EBP Concept
Definition
Adopting CIPD (2025) definition, Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is a strategy involved in decision making informed by detailed thinking and sound evidence with decisions justifiable amongst all people/stakeholders.
The appropriateness of using EBP is identified in CIPD (2025a) as reducing the basic assumptions being made or out-of-date data. This enhances credibility and relevance of sourced data. The embrace of EBP assists to come up with policy and process with equity, efficiency and alignment with organisation goals hence improved performance.
Benefits
Use of EBP key benefit is offering organisations in decisions making in a well informed and transparency-based decision making. This ends up lowering limitations of guessing or traditions. According to Dinsmore and Fryer (2023) the critical thinking is a strategy in EBP enhancing people professionals in questioning any assumption, evidencing biasness and prioritising on alternatives. Another key benefit is that it enhances how objective the decisions they make is, reducing errors made.
Challenges
A significant challenge linked with EBP is taking immense time hence a reduced decision-making process. This is since Kim et al. (2021) identify the EBP process as following the 5A’s which entail asking clear questions, searching, critical appraisal, implementation and eventual evaluation. A different challenge/disadvantage include overemphasising with embrace of quantitative data and overlooking the qualitative factors including the staff morale and culture embraced in organisations.
In conclusion, the embrace of EBP assists in granting a well-planned and organised strategy for integrating evidence and professional-based judgement. However, a set of challenges have been noted which limit the process success in achieving EBP.
Examples in Technivara
Example 1– In the case study, Technivara is noted to be in an expansion strategy. Hence, the organisation would embrace this in pursuing resourcing and workforce planning. The organisation operating in the technology sector, CIPD (2025b) note that it would be involved in analysis of the statistics in their market, analyse workforce demographics (to work under Sue Young) and skills gaps. Hence, with Technivara noted as still operating under conventional/traditional strategies, EBP would ensure they embrace better strategies. Being a major supplier, they would appropriately manage their operations in the areas of computers, electronics, medicine and automotive.
Example 2– Technivara would achieve modernisation of their performance management strategies. Today, it is noted as utilising use of paper-based review lacking transparencies and on-time insights. Hence, Technivara would gain on how they promote, succession planning, capacity development and rewards management process. According to Almashyakhi (2022), the identified approaches would lower risks of bias or out-of-date initiatives while similarly ensuring they are aligned with people practice professionals.
For concluding, using EBP guides an entity to leverage on competitive advantage in contemporary organisation sector. Having immense changes in place for contemporary entities, an embrace of EBP guide in embracing and acclimatising the change with success.
1.2 Analysis tool and one appropriate analysis method that Technivara might apply to recognise and diagnose issues, challenges, and opportunities
Analysis Tool Selected- SWOT Analysis
This stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) relevant for Technivara in analysis of issues, challenges and opportunities (CIPD, 2024).
For example, using SWOT, issues impacting Technivara would be identified as including reputation in technology sector and sustainable development. This is with challenges noted to include their paper-based people professional initiatives which limit their efficiencies.
Strengths– by using the tool, a major advantage would include working with an appropriately balanced strategy integrating internal and external contexts. According to CIPD (2024a), this guides the stakeholders tasked with decisions making establish what to improve and leverage on competitive advantage.
Weaknesses– SWOT analysis is identified as being very simple and working with subjectivity in their application. Also, it majorly relies on the users’ perceptions as source of their data. According to Benzaghta et al. (2021), with limited data in place for evidence-based support, findings vagueness would prevail or being bias with the main challenge not noted.
